VNUS Closure®

Research at The Whiteley Clinic has shown that, at five years, and with over three thousand patients' experience, once the vein is closed by this heating process, it is eaten away by the body and is permanently gone. This is quite unlike the response from the tying and stripping of the vein where the vein tries to grow back.

The only trouble with the original VNUS Closure® catheter was that, to get these excellent results, the heating process had to be performed under a tight wrap around the leg which was too tight for local anaesthetic. As such, general anaesthetic was required for this procedure.

The first VNUS Closure® performed this way was performed in March 1999 by Mark Whiteley and Judy Holdstock of The Whiteley Clinic.
